The first job for Thepmoukda Phetsalath, 27, was participating in the construction of the external power supply of the Laotian section of the China-Laos Railway.
The Laotian woman graduated from Tongji University in Shanghai and was employed by the Laos-China Power Investment Co, a joint venture in Laos.
She said that while at school, she often purchased daily supplies for her family, which would take a long time to be shipped from China. However, after the railway opened in early December, it became more convenient.
She said she hoped to bring her family members to China by rail one day.
