Country strikes Kurdish groups in Iraq, Syria

Turkiye conducted an air operation early on Sunday against the Kurdish People's Protection Units in northern Syria and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party in northern Iraq, the Turkish defense ministry said. The "Claw-Sword" air operation was carried out in regions used as bases to attack Turkiye and in self-defense in line with the 51st article of the United Nations Charter, the ministry said in a written statement. The operation came after a deadly attack in Istanbul on Nov 13 that killed at least six.

5 dead, 18 injured in Colorado shooting

Five people were killed and 18 injured in a shooting at a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs on Saturday night, police said. A suspect was in custody and was being treated for injuries after the attack at Club Q, Colorado Springs police Lieutenant Pamela Castro told a news conference. Castro did not give any information on the motive for the attack.

Voting for general elections begins

Nepalis went to the polls on Sunday morning for elections to the House of Representatives of the federal parliament and seven provincial assemblies. About 18 million voters are eligible to elect 275 members to the lower house and 550 members to the seven provincial assemblies. Nepal has adopted a mixed electoral system, in which 60 percent of the representatives to the lower house and the provincial assemblies are elected through the fast-past-the-post voting system, and the rest are filled through the proportional representation system.
