IAEA finds no sign of undeclared nuclear activities in Ukraine

VIENNA - The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Thursday that its experts have completed inspections at three locations in Ukraine, and have not found "any indications of undeclared nuclear activities and materials" there.

The IAEA carried out the verification activities at the request of the Ukrainian government after Russia "made allegations about activities at the three locations -- the Institute for Nuclear Research in Kyiv, Eastern Mining and Processing Plant in Zhovti Kody, and Production Association Pivdennyi Machine-Building Plant in Dnipro," IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi said.

Grossi said the IAEA experts were "given unfettered access to the locations" during their inspection over the past few days, and they also collected environmental samples for laboratory analysis.

The IAEA chief added that the agency is ready to conduct further verification activities in Ukraine to verify the absence of undeclared activities and materials, and deter any misuse of such materials.
