Water storage at the Baihetan Hydropower Station recently reached normal levels for the first time. The reservoir is the largest in the lower reaches of Jinshajiang River.

Located on the Jinshajiang River in the border area of Ningnan county, Sichuan province, and Qiaojia county, Yunnan province, the Baihetan Hydropower Station is now the world's largest power plant under construction.

It is also has the world's largest installed capacity for a single generating unit and is the world's second-largest in terms of overall installed capacity.

The project is invested and managed by China Three Gorges Corporation and constructed mainly by China Power Construction Group Co. It will significantly improve flood control along the Chuanjiang River and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River through the joint operation of cascade reservoirs while continuously provide clean energy.

So far, 13 power generating units have been put into operation and have produced 41 billion kilowatts of clean energy.

Upon completion of the station's annual average power generation will reach 62.4 billion kilowatt-hours, which can meet the daily electricity demand of about 75 million people. It is equivalent to saving about 19.68 million metric tons of standard coal and reducing 51.6 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
