President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message on the establishment of the Global Sustainable Transport Innovation and Knowledge Center in Beijing on Friday, saying that China stands ready to work with the rest of the world to promote global cooperation in transport.

Xi said the sustainable development of global transport and connectivity among countries bear great significance for ensuring the stability and smooth flow of global logistics supply chains and also for boosting development of the global economy.

The center's establishment is an important move adopted to support implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, he said.

Last year, Xi announced via video link China's decision to set up the center while addressing the opening ceremony of the second UN Global Sustainable Transport Conference held in Beijing.

In his congratulatory message, Xi said China is willing to work with other countries to make full use of the center as a platform to promote global transport cooperation, contribute to advancing the Global Development Initiative, implement the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, in the spirit of opening roads through mountains and building bridges over rivers, generations of Chinese have worked and turned China into a country with vast transport infrastructure. So far, China has set up an integrated transport network exceeding 6 million kilometers.

The country is also committed to advancing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and strengthening infrastructure connectivity with other countries.
