Progress in 5G base station construction

The number of 5G base stations in China registered stable growth amid the country's efforts to advance the construction of the network in recent years. China had over 2.1 million 5G base stations by the end of August, accounting for 19.8 percent of its mobile base stations, up 5.5 percentage points from the end of 2021, said the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Some 677,000 5G base stations were built in the first eight months of the year, the ministry said. The number of 5G mobile users in China hit 475 million by the end of July, according to data from the ministry.

Services sector sees robust growth

China's services sector made marked progress over the last decade, with industrial structure improved and new growth drivers emerging, official data showed. The added value of the services sector grew at an average annual rate of 7.4 percent during the 2013-21 period, 0.8 percentage point higher than the average annual GDP growth during the period, the National Bureau of Statistics said in a report. The sector's contribution to GDP expansion increased from 45 percent in 2012 to 63.5 percent in 2019, the report said, and its contribution in 2021 was 54.9 percent despite COVID-19 disruptions.

Additional pork reserves to ease prices

China will release more pork from government reserves to the market this week to maintain supply and price stability, the country's top economic regulator said. The price of hogs has been running at a relatively high level recently, said the National Development and Reform Commission. This will be the third batch of pork released from government reserves. The first batch was released on Sept 8, and the second batch on Sunday.
