Giant rice plants 1.9 meters tall have entered the harvest season in Sanzhou village of Rongjiang county in Guizhou province.

It is the first time the giant rice has been successfully cultivated in the village, with an estimated yield of 800 kilograms per mu, or 12,000 kg per hectare — 1.5 times the yield of regular rice. The planting area of the test field is 0.27 hectare this year.

According to Ou Junzhi, director of Zhaihao township's agricultural technology service center, giant rice grows to about 2 meters, almost twice the height of standard varieties. It can better adapt to conditions such as climate and environment than regular rice plants.
