Alley gets a splash of cats and other imagery

Many cute cats, painted on exterior walls along Baimi Alley in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, have drawn photo enthusiasts. They are part of a project in Renmin subdistrict to brighten up old communities.

The project includes the renovation of pedestrian paths, new car stopping poles, wall paintings, improvement of trash can stations and promotion of vegetation planting among residents along the 300-meter alley.

Themes of the wall paintings also include the major channel project in the center of ancient Guangzhou. Construction of the channel started during the Song Dynasty (960-1279).
