Top 10 global unicorn companies

The Hurun Research Institute released its Global Unicorn Index 2022 Half-Year Report in Guangzhou, Guangdong province on Aug 30, ranking non-listed companies worth over $1 billion and established after the year 2000.

Beijing-based Douyin retained the top spot worldwide with a value at 1.3 trillion yuan ($187.75 billion), while Elon Musk's SpaceX saw its value jump 25 percent to 840 billion yuan and nabbed second place.

The total number of unicorn companies worldwide has grown to 1,312 by the end of June 2022, with the United States having 625 and China with 312.
