Short-distance tours were preferred options of travelers during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday.

The three-day break from Saturday to Monday saw 73.4 million domestic trips made, dropping by 16.7 percent year-on-year. The trip number over the holiday was around 73 percent of that in the same period of 2019 before the COVID-19 epidemic, according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Monday evening.

Revenue generated over the three days was around 28.7 billion yuan ($4.14 billion), a fall of 22.8 percent year-on-year. The number was roughly 60 percent of that in 2019, the ministry said.

Short-distance trips to suburbs, for example, were the most popular choice for travelers.

Also, tours such as appreciating the night view and the moon from a boat and enjoying beautiful lanterns were preferred over the holiday as these are traditional activities during Mid-Autumn Festival, said the ministry.
