Global COVID-19 cases surpass 600m
Global COVID-19 cases topped 600 million on Saturday, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. The global case count amounted to more than 600 million, with more than 6.4 million deaths worldwide, showed the data. The United States reported 94,184,146 cases and 1,043,838 deaths, both the highest counts in the world, accounting for nearly 16 percent of global cases and deaths. Countries with more than 20 million cases include India, France and Brazil, according to the tally.

Monsoon flooding kills more than 1,000
The death toll from monsoon flooding in Pakistan since June has reached 1,033, according to figures released by the country's National Disaster Management Authority on Sunday. It said 119 people had died in the previous 24 hours as heavy rains continued to lash parts of the country. Officials said this year's monsoon flooding has affected more than 33 million people, destroying or badly damaging nearly a million homes.

France agrees to 'renewed partnership'
Algeria and France signed a joint declaration on Saturday for a "renewed partnership" at the end of the three-day visit of French President Emmanuel Macron. During the visit, the two countries signed five cooperation agreements in pharmaceuticals, sports and other fields, in addition to an agreement between the two governments to establish a "permanent partnership" in higher education and scientific research.
