Chinese tech company Lenovo Group Ltd has unveiled its latest smartphone Legion Y70 with updated features to attract local gaming enthusiasts with tailor-made hardware.

The Lenovo Legion Y70 is the second gaming smartphone launched by the company under its popular Legion brand this year. It is part of Lenovo's broader push to stand out amid intense competition and focus on the gaming market to differentiate itself.

Chen Ke, vice president of Lenovo, said the Y70 is a flagship of strong performance, which can balance e-sports games at high settings with other scenarios in daily work and life.

By the end of 2021 China had more than 666 million video game players, according to a report released by the Game Publishing Committee of the China Audio-Video and Digital Publishing Association.

Data from market research firm Canalys show global smartphone shipments fell to 287 million units in the second quarter of 2022, the lowest quarterly figure since Q2 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite the overall market slowdown, Lenovo's smartphone business achieved a year-on-year growth of 21 percent in the second quarter. Lenovo said the mobile phone business has grown in North America, Latin America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific.
