Dozens of parkour lovers showed their passion and speed during a two-day competition on the steep 999-step stairway known as the Sky Ladder at Tianman Mountain in Zhangjiajie, Hunan province, over the weekend.

The course, with 108 sets of obstacles, begins at Tianmen Cave, running down nearly 300 meters. It has a 45-degree incline and a vertical drop of 150 meters.

Of the 69 runners from around China, 50 entered the sprint race. Li Yiqi, 30, from Guangdong province, won the championship in 1 minute and 42 seconds.

Shang Chunsong, former captain of the national women's gymnastics team, also participated. She said it was "very exciting" and that she has fallen in love with parkour even though she hasn't been practicing long.
