G20 host warns of energy, food crises

Group of 20 finance ministers and central bank chiefs met in Indonesia on Friday for talks on the fallout from the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with the host warning that failure to tackle energy and food crises would be catastrophic. The two-day meeting on the resort island of Bali started under the shadow of a conflict that has roiled markets, spiked food prices and stoked breakneck inflation, a week after Moscow's top diplomat walked out of talks with the forum's foreign ministers. In her opening remarks, Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati called on ministers to work together with a spirit of cooperation because "the world is watching" for solutions.

Hundreds mourn tavern shooting victims

A memorial service for 16 people killed in a random shooting was held in South Africa's Soweto township. Around 200 people, including family members of the deceased and some politicians, came to mourn the victims on Thursday nearby the tavern where the shooting happened. A group of men armed with rifles and 9 mm pistols entered the tavern in the early hours of Sunday morning and started randomly shooting at customers sitting inside, killing 12 people on the scene. Four people later died from their wounds. Police are investigating the incident, and no arrests have been made so far.
