New prime minister to be announced on Sept 5
The new prime minister of the United Kingdom replacing incumbent Boris Johnson will be announced on Sept 5, said Graham Brady, chairman of the Conservative Party's backbench 1922 Committee, on Monday. Brady said the 1922 Committee, which runs the Tory leadership contest, has decided that the candidates will have to get the backing of 20 members of Parliament, higher than the required backing of eight MPs seen in the party's usual rules. The first round of voting among Tory MPs will be held on Wednesday, he said.

Gang violence leaves more than 50 dead
Gun battles between rival gangs have killed more than 50 people since Friday near the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince, said a local mayor on Monday. Shootouts between gangs in the suburb of Cite Soleil have also left more than 100 people wounded, said the mayor of Cite Soleil, adding that 50 of them are in critical condition. Gang violence has spiked since president Jovenel Moise was assassinated a year ago in a nighttime raid, creating a political vacuum and leading criminal groups to expand their control of the country's territory.
