US claims on religious minorities rejected

India has slammed the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom over what it described as biased and inaccurate comments on India. According to India's Foreign Ministry, the comments show a lack of knowledge of India and its political plurality. India's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in response to a media query on Saturday evening that these comments "reflect a severe lack of understanding of India and its constitutional framework, its plurality and its democratic ethos".On Saturday, the commission on its social media platform quoted its commissioner David Curry as saying it is "concerned about the Indian government's continued repression of critical voices, especially religious minorities and those reporting on and advocating for them."

Black man shot dozens of times, lawyer says

Police killed Jayland Walker, a black man, by shooting him dozens of times as he ran from officers following a traffic stop in Akron, Ohio, a lawyer for his family said, citing a review of police body-worn camera footage that was due to be made public on Sunday. In comments published on Saturday by the Akron Beacon Journal, attorney Bobby DiCello described the video as "brutal," and said Walker's relatives worried that protests over it could turn violent. The shooting on Thursday was the latest in a spate of killings of black men by law enforcement in the United States.

19 killed after bus plunges into ravine

A bus slid off a mountain road and fell into a deep ravine in heavy rain in southwest Pakistan on Sunday, killing 19 people and injuring 12 others, a government official said. Mahtab Shah, an assistant administrator for the district of Shirani in Balochistan Province, said about 35 passengers were traveling on the bus. Shah said the bus apparently slid on the wet road amid heavy rain and the driver lost control of the vehicle, which fell about 60 meters into the ravine. Last month, 22 people were killed in a similar accident when a bus fell into a ravine in the Qila Saifullah district.
