China ships 17.74m 5G phones in May
Shipments of 5G phones in China rose 6 percent year-on-year to about 17.74 million units in May, data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, a research institute under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, showed. The volume accounted for 85.3 percent of the country's total mobile phone shipments during the period.
Chinese yuan up vs basket of currencies
China's yuan strengthened against a basket of currencies last week, said the China Foreign Exchange Trade System. The CFETS yuan exchange rate composite index, which measures the yuan's strength relative to a basket of currencies, edged up 0.12 point from the previous week to 102.03. The index compares the yuan with the value of 24 currencies, including the US dollar, the euro and the Japanese yen.
