Beijing's per capita GDP stays on top in China

Beijing's per capita GDP exceeded $28,000 in 2021, up 40 percent over 2017, remaining at the top of all municipalities and provinces in China, according to a report released recently by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics.

The report reviewed the city's social and economic development from 2017 to 2021, when high-end industries played an important role in bolstering the capital's economy.

According to the report, Beijing's GDP reached the 3 trillion yuan ($448.8 billion) threshold in 2018 and exceeded 4 trillion yuan three years later in 2021.

The added value of the city's service industry continues to account for more than 80 percent of its GDP.

The city's digital economy accounted for 40.4 percent of its GDP in 2021, up 4.1 percentage points over 2017 as the moved to boost digital-related industries.

The city's high-end industrial areas, such as Zhongguancun Science Park, contributed half of Beijing's economic output.
