New electron tech zaps water clean in Chengdu
China began treating contaminated water using electron beam technology in a demonstration project in Chengdu, Sichuan province, marking the first time such technology has been used to treat wastewater in China. Compared with traditional methods of treating contaminated water, electron beam technology is safer and cleaner, as well as more effective at removing organic molecules, said CGN Nuclear Technology Development Co, a subsidiary of State-owned nuclear power giant China General Nuclear Power Corp.
Central bank adds liquidity via operations
China's central bank on Wednesday added liquidity to the banking system through operations of a medium-term lending facility and reverse repos. The People's Bank of China injected 200 billion yuan ($29.6 billion) into the market through a one-year MLF with an interest rate of 2.85 percent. The MLF tool helps commercial and policy banks maintain liquidity by allowing them to borrow from the central bank using securities as collateral.
Chinese railway builders earn praise
Chinese builders constructing the Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway, Chinese HSR's first systemic footprint overseas, have received a letter of commendation for their contribution. The Chinese side of PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia-China, a consortium building the 142.3-kilometer HSR in Indonesia, sent the letter to First Engineering of China Railway No 4 Engineering Group Co Ltd, lauding its efforts in erecting box girders for the line. Construction on the HSR began in June 2018 and is expected to launch operations by June 2023, which will slash the current travel time of three hours to 40 minutes.
