A cargo plane departed on Tuesday night from Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport on a flight to Mumbai, India, marking the official start of air freight transport between the two cities.

India's SpiceJet Airlines, which operates the route, is planning one flight per week with a Boeing 737-700 aircraft.

Exported goods on the flight mainly consist of electronic products and mechanical manufacturing products, such as notebook computers, mechanical parts and aluminum coils.

The new Chongqing-Mumbai route, now added to the existing Chongqing-New Delhi freight route, enhances the airline network from Chongqing to South Asia and is expected to help promote Chongqing's high-end manufactured products abroad.

Mumbai is the second international destination to be established from Chongqing this year, after the Chongqing-New Delhi freight route. A total of 108 international and regional routes have been opened by the airport.
