SEOUL -- At least seven people were confirmed dead and 46 others wounded in a fire that broke out at an office building in the South Korean southeastern city of Daegu, Yonhap news agency said Thursday citing the firefighting authorities.

The fire occurred at about 10:55 am local time in the seven-story office building in Daegu, about 300 km south of the capital Seoul.

Seven people were found dead, and 46 people were injured after inhaling smoke. Dozens of others fled from the building.

About 50 fire trucks and 160 firefighting personnel were dispatched to the scene and extinguished the flame about 20 minutes later.

The exact cause of the incident, not ruling out a possible arson, was under investigation.
