At least 3 killed, several injured in train derailment in southern Germany: media

BERLIN -- A train derailed Friday near the Alpine ski town Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the German federal state of Bavaria, killing at least three persons, according to a report of local media NTV.

Several people were injured in the accident, and some of the carriages were lying on their sides, said the report.

According to a police spokesman, the first reports regarding the accident were received around 12:20 pm local time. It is still unclear how it happened.
