The First China Chaoshan International Textile and Garment Exhibition, which was drawing to a close on Monday, is expected to play a role in helping help turn Shantou, Guangdong province, into a textile and garment production base with international influence.

"The exhibition helps small and medium-sized enterprises in the Chaozhou and Shantou regions in eastern Guangdong to solve their difficulties and further increase their presence in world markets," Zheng Renhao, deputy secretary-general of the Guangdong provincial government, said at the opening ceremony on Saturday.

The event has helped build a good platform for promoting exchanges and cooperation and deepening the coordinated development of industrial and supply chains, so it is of great significance in promoting fashion, industrialization and internationalization of the textile and garment industry in Shantou and even the entire province, and in creating a world production base, he said.

Zheng urged local companies to seize the opportunities to further expand at home and abroad and help upgrade the country's textile and garment industry to a new level.

Wen Zhanbin, Party secretary of Shantou, said that after years of effort and development, the textile and garment industries are now distinctive and advantageous pillar industries, with the most complete industrial and supply chains in Shantou.

More than 248 exhibitors from around the world participated in the event, themed "China's fashion and the world's products".

There were more than 100,000 exhibits featuring 500 brands during the event, which was held in Shantou's Chaoshan Expo Center from Saturday to Monday.
