DPRK adds 269,000 more fever cases; total 1.48m
PYONGYANG-The number of people with fever in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea reached 1.48 million on Monday with about 269,000 new cases of fever, reported the Korean Central News Agency on Tuesday.
Among those people with fever registered on Monday, some 170,460 recovered and six died, reported the KCNA citing the state emergency epidemic prevention headquarters.
Since the outbreak of fever in the country in late April, more than 819,000 fevered people have recovered and more than 663,900 are receiving medical treatment, with the death toll reaching 56.
In another report on Tuesday, the KCNA reported that urgent measures have been taken to ensure the supply of medicine and the military medical forces of the People's Army were deployed to all pharmacies in Pyongyang on Monday. Pharmacies have also begun supplying medicine to patients under the 24-hour service system.
The central emergency epidemic prevention sector has made efforts to curb and root out the spread of the epidemic, so as to prevent reinfection among those who had recovered from the disease.
At the same time, pharmaceutical and medical equipment factories across the country have increased their production of medicine and medical supplies to meet urgent needs, the KCNA reported.
Pyongyang announced the country's first COVID-19 case on Thursday, and declared a nationwide lockdown.
