Extreme weather hits Southwest China

Hurricane-force winds, torrential rain and hail whipped Anyue county in Sichuan province for three hours on Monday, knocking down or damaging 103 houses and injuring 20 people.

Around 300 hectares of crops and 10,000 people were affected by the storm, which raged from 8 pm to 11 pm, according to the publicity department of the Anyue county committee of the Communist Party of China.

Emergency response personnel, rescued trapped people, dealt with safety hazards and removed road obstacles, it said.
