More cargo trains to transport coal
China will launch additional cargo trains early next month to boost coal transport amid the country's efforts to ensure stable energy supplies. According to the plan, new cargo trains will be added to transport coal from coal-rich Shanxi province to eastern regions, said China State Railway Group Co Ltd. More heavy-haul freight trains will be put into operation to step up the country's capacity to transport coal from north to south, it said.
CDB enhances support for green solutions
The China Development Bank has stepped up its loan issuance to help promote carbon sink capacity in the forestry sector amid the country's push for green development. Loans worth about 114.1 billion yuan ($17.95 billion) have been issued over the past five years in key ecological areas such as the national reserve forest construction and forest quality improvements, the policy bank said. The CDB has supported the cultivation and maintenance of forests covering nearly 4 million hectares, which are expected to absorb 72 million tons of carbon per year after China achieves its planned carbon emissions peak by 2030.
