UN peacekeepers die in convoy explosion
Two peacekeepers of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali, or MINUSMA, were killed and four others injured following an explosion in central Mali, according to a statement from the UN mission in Mali on Monday. A MINUSMA logistics convoy on its way to Timbuktu struck an improvised explosive device in Mopti on Monday morning. The tragedy was "vigorously condemned" by the Head of MINUSMA El-Ghassim Wane. Last year, 28 peacekeepers were killed and 165 wounded in Mali, and 50 percent of all incidents were caused by improvised explosive devices, said Wane during a video conference in December.

Presidential election draws 12 candidates
France's top constitutional authority published on Monday the list of 12 candidates registered to stand in the presidential election that begins on April 10. All the main candidates managed to muster the 500 endorsements from elected French officials needed to confirm registration by the Constitutional Council. Polls show that incumbent President Emmanuel Macron, elected in 2017, is the overwhelming favorite to come out on top in the second round runoff on April 24, after declaring his candidacy last week.
