Uplifting opening

As with the Winter Olympics opening ceremony, snowflakes were a core motif throughout Friday night's event to convey the message that even the smallest things can make a difference.

Wei Jingyang, a hearing-impaired dancer who performed at the opening ceremony, said inclusivity played a major role in both rehearsals and the final performance on the night.

Using sign language, she said: "It made me very happy to be able to work in this team with so many dancers without disabilities. This process reflects the concept of better disability integration.
