Report: Asian innovators taking global lead

Asia has asserted its dominance in the global innovation space, with more than half of the world's most 100 innovative organizations coming from the region, according to the Top 100 Global Innovators 2022 report released by global analytics firm Clarivate last week.
According to the annual report, a total of 54 innovators from Asia made the top 100 list. The 100 innovators come from 12 countries and regions. The Chinese mainland has five companies listed including Alibaba, Ant Group, BOE, Huawei and TCL.
"The global innovation ecosystem and IP environment have seen drastic changes in the past decade. The way ideas are formed, where they are created and how they connect is evolving. This year, we changed our report methodology to better measure the innovative ideas and activities," said Song Yifeng, vice-president of consumer, manufacturing and technology markets, North Asia, at Clarivate.
The new methodology uses a mathematical foundation focused on comparison. Top 100 innovators were identified due to the consistent high performance of their inventions, at international scale, when compared to technically comparable patented ideas from all other innovators. In particular, their inventions' influence on the research ideas of other innovators is exceptional, demonstrating the leading nature of their innovation, Song said.
