Investors top 200m in securities market

The number of investors in China's securities market exceeded 200 million as of Feb 25, official data showed. In March 2019, the corresponding figure exceeded 150 million for the first time, according to the China Securities Depository and Clearing Co Ltd. In January, the securities market attracted more than 1.32 million new investors. Individuals accounted for the majority of new investors, while the number of new institutional investors stood at 3,700. The Beijing Stock Exchange, which began trading on Nov 15, had more than 4.8 million investor accounts by the end of January.

Waterway freight, passenger volumes up

China's waterway freight and passenger volumes rose year-on-year in January, according to data from the Ministry of Transport. Freight volume totaled 679.58 million tons last month, up almost 4 percent year-on-year. The province of Hainan saw the biggest increase in waterway freight volume, up 34 percent year-on-year. In January, waterway passenger trips totaled 9.08 million, up 6.6 percent year-on-year.
