"Being alone, not being able to work, being worried about our loved ones — at such times, we need pleasure for the soul. This undoubtedly comes from culture," says Robert Kružík, conductor of The Greek Passion. [PHOTO PROVIDED TO CHINA DAILY]

Hope springs eternal

Performing A New Vision of Huqin (huqin is the family of Chinese instruments that includes the erhu), Yang Enhua — a string virtuoso with vision impairment — was disappointed that his show had to move online (date to be announced), but thinks the silver lining is increased accessibility during the pandemic. Yang notes that while there's no substitute for in-person performing, the online concert enables more people to enjoy the show from wherever they are.

Commissioned as part of No Limits — an HKAF initiative to promote works by Hong Kong artists of different abilities — the show's accessibility services will include Hong Kong Sign Language interpretation, an audio version of the house program, and captions in Chinese and English.
