Timeline
Late December 2019 to early April 2020: The spread of the novel coronavirus is successfully halted in Wuhan, capital of Hubei, and throughout the province, marking a decisive three-month victory in this critical battle.
From late April 2020: The nation explores and implements regular virus control measures. With the emergence of the highly transmissible Delta variant, the focus is on preventing imported infections and stepping up nucleic acid testing to stem the virus' spread within two to three incubation periods.
August: China adopts the dynamic zero-COVID policy that features a set of whole-chain and precise virus containment measures. The policy calls for comprehensive disease control measures targeting people, objects and the environment, as well as work at community level. Mass vaccination should be stepped up, loopholes plugged and measures targeting emerging variants upgraded promptly, according to the policy.
