Kyrgyz president signs decree on sending peacekeepers to Kazakhstan

BISHKEK -- Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov signed a decree on sending Kyrgyz troops to Kazakhstan as part of the Collective Peacekeeping Forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), his press service reported Friday.

Kyrgyzstan has decided to send its military contingent to participate in peacekeeping activities for a limited period of time in order to stabilize and normalize the situation in Kazakhstan, the press service said.

Earlier, the Kyrgyz parliament gave permission for sending peacekeepers to Kazakhstan.

The peacekeeping force includes 150 military personnel, eight armored vehicles and 11 other vehicles, and is tasked to help protect objects of strategic importance in Kazakhstan, the press service said.
