Beijing's gross domestic product in 2021 exceeded 4 trillion yuan ($630 billion), a year-on-year increase of 8.5 percent, said Chen Jining, the mayor of the capital, on Thursday at the fifth session of the 15th Beijing Municipal People's Congress.

Presenting the government work report at the opening session of the conference, Chen said the city has achieved a good start to the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25) by making new progress in many fields.

According to the report, the consumer prices in Beijing rose by 1.1 percent in 2021 and the per capita disposable income of residents increased by 8 percent.

"The economic structure and quality continued to be optimized and improved," Chen said.
