SANAA - The Saudi-led coalition carried out airstrikes on two military camps controlled by the Houthi militia in Yemen's capital Sanaa on Wednesday early morning, the Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported.

The airstrikes hit the 1st Division camp in the center of the capital and the Dhabwah camp in the southern part of Sanaa, the television said without providing further details.

Large explosions caused by the airstrikes could be felt across the city, residents said.

Meanwhile, the coalition said in a statement aired by the Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya TV that its airstrikes destroyed two workshops in the 1st Division camp and two stores in the Dhabwah camp used by the Houthi militia for assembling and storing explosive-laden drones.

The airstrikes came a few hours after the coalition announced the interception of a bomb-laden drone which "the Houthi militia launched from Sanaa towards Saudi Arabia."

The Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi militia has recently intensified cross-border drone and missile attacks against Saudi cities. In February last year, the Houthi rebels began a major offensive against the Saudi-backed Yemeni government army to capture the oil-rich province of Marib in central Yemen.
