In the latest evidence of their blatant interference in the Taiwan question, the United States and Japan are reportedly mulling a joint military operation plan for a possible "Taiwan emergency".

Citing unnamed Japanese government sources, Japan's Kyodo News Agency said on Thursday that Washington and Tokyo would likely reach an agreement to start creating an official version of such a plan in the high-level security meeting between diplomatic and defense officials due to be held in January.

Earlier this month, former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe declared: "A Taiwan emergency is a Japanese emergency, and therefore an emergency for the Japan-US alliance."

Japan is evidently eager to up the ante over the Taiwan question, which will only further strain its already fraught ties with its neighbor.

Beijing has repeatedly warned no one should underestimate the strong resolution, determination and capability of the Chinese people to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Those intended to heed the warning certainly include the US and Japan, as the two are using their military alliance to disrupt China's reunification cause.

Beijing has made it clear that realizing China's complete reunification is a historic mission and an unshakable commitment. It will use all means necessary, including the use of military force, to realize national reunification.

The more foreign countries collude with separatist forces on the Chinese island, the stronger the case for Beijing to use force. In fact, foreign interference in the Taiwan question has increasingly emboldened Taiwan separatists and they may make a reckless move toward splitting the island from the motherland at any time.

Beijing will never tolerate any secessionist activities, no matter who the instigators are. Both the US and Japan should stop risking a misjudgment by indulging in the illusion that Beijing's redline can be crossed without paying a price.

Due to constant provocations from some foreign forces, the US and Japan in particular, the situation across the Taiwan Straits has become increasingly complicated and combustible. Both Washington and Tokyo should know exacerbating strategic pressure on Beijing over the Taiwan question is a dangerous game.

Beijing will never allow any forces to split Taiwan from the motherland and no one in their right minds believes either Washington or Tokyo is willing to pay a high price to support the island's secessionists.

It is high time they stopped warmongering and did more for regional peace and stability.
