Channeling a passion for China

Across numerous social media platforms, both in China and abroad, more young people are finding short-video content to be the perfect outlet for their creativity, as well as to close the gap between themselves and other like-minded people and groups. Here are some good examples of influential young short-video content creators.
The expat life
Ychina, established by Israeli internet celebrity Raz Galor with three Chinese partners in 2017, is a new media company highlighting expat life in China. It showcases a vibrant China to the world through short videos that record discussions by expats about Chinese culture and the latest trends in the country on 20 different platforms globally.
According to Galor, better known as Gao Yousi in China, his group now has nearly 50 content creators from more than 30 countries whose videos are popular on domestic and international social media platforms, such as Bilibili, YouTube, Douyin and Instagram.
Ychina's prime video account has over 4 million followers on Bilibili and more than 254,000 subscribers on YouTube. The video episodes where Galor shares his experiences in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region attracted a total of 80 million clicks across all platforms.
Real craftsmanship
Caiqian, a 25-year-old content creator on Bilibili, whose real name is Wang Xinge, has re-created, using traditional methods, meticulous replicas of some of the signature treasures unearthed at the Sanxingdui Ruins archaeological site in Guanghan, Sichuan province.
Among the items he has lovingly crafted is the famous gold mask, the original of which dates back 3,000 years. The process took 15 days to complete at a cost of 200,000 yuan ($31,405), hammering 500 grams of pure gold. The related video was released in April to wide acclaim.
He says: "I think I am still weak in talent and keep learning. Those who work with cultural relics not only have skill, but also need to have historical knowledge. I hope to be able to restore actual cultural relics when my skill is more mature."
Later, in August, he re-created a golden scepter that was also unearthed at the Sanxingdui Ruins.
He now has 3.77 million followers on Bilibili, and 48,900 subscribers on YouTube.
Local cuisines, customs
Daoyueshe Shiyuji, or "Chinese Food Discover" as its English name, is a team of young people which shares short videos introducing delicious food and local customs from all over the country, especially on Bilibili and YouTube.
Their videos introducing cuisines and customs from the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region have received millions of accumulated clicks.
Among them, one video, filmed from the perspective of tourists to Xinjiang, recounts the daily lives of the people there, showing the happiness, harmony and national unity in the autonomous region and helping more people learn about its culture.
The team has more than 6.39 million subscribers on Bilibili and over 327,000 subscribers on YouTube.
