Cotton output this year stood at 5.73 million tons, down 3 percent year-on-year, said the National Bureau of Statistics. However, cotton yield per hectare rose 1.5 percent to 1,892.6 kilograms per hectare thanks to favorable weather conditions and better field management by growers, said Wang Minghua, an official with the NBS.
