Work begins on high altitude solar project
The world's first ultrahigh altitude photovoltaic demonstration project, located in Southwest China's Sichuan province, launched construction on Tuesday, said its operator State Power Investment Corp. Located where the average altitude is 4,000 meters, the demonstration project, with a total installed capacity of 400 megawatts, is set to begin operating by the end of September next year.
Cotton output down slightly in 2021
China's cotton output was slightly lower this year, official data showed on Tuesday. Cotton output this year stood at 5.73 million tons, down 3 percent year-on-year, said the National Bureau of Statistics. However, cotton yield per hectare rose 1.5 percent to 1,892.6 kilograms per hectare thanks to favorable weather conditions and better field management by growers, said Wang Minghua, an official with the NBS. The total area of cotton fields shrank 4.4 percent from last year to around 3.03 million hectares, the NBS added.
