Suu Kyi sentenced to 4 years in prison
Detained Myanmar President U Win Myint and State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi were sentenced to four years in prison on Monday, Major General Zaw Min Tun, head of the Information Team under the State Administration Council, told Xinhua. U Win Myint and Aung San Suu Kyi were convicted of charges of incitement and breaching the Natural Disaster Management Law. Aung San Suu Kyi had been accused of 11 offenses, while U Win Myint was under two charges of incitement and breaching Natural Disaster Management Law. They had denied the charges. Trials involving more charges against Aung San Suu Kyi were to follow.
SOMALIA
China praised for gift of more vaccine doses
Somalia on Sunday received 500,000 doses of the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine donated by China to intensify its fight against the pandemic amid the spread of the Omicron variant. Somalia's Minister of Health and Human Services Fawziya Abikar Nur praised the Chinese government for the vaccine donation, saying the arrival of the Sinopharm doses was timely because of the Omicron variant, which she said is spreading fast. Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Fei Shengchao said the arrival of the doses demonstrates China's commitment to honoring its pledge with actions and protecting the lives of the Somali people. Somalia, which rolled out mass vaccinations on March 16, received 200,000 donated doses of the Sinopharm vaccine on April 11.

President Barrow wins second term in election
Gambian President Adama Barrow has comfortably won reelection, the electoral commission said on Sunday. Barrow amassed 457,519 votes, around 53 percent of the total votes cast. He beat his main challenger Ousainu Darboe of the United Democratic Party who collected 238,253 of the votes cast. Barrow was first voted Gambian president in 2016 while leading a coalition of seven political parties and some independent candidates, defeating his predecessor Yahya Jammeh. Jammeh has been living in Equatorial Guinea in exile.
