For petite senior models in Chongqing, less is more

Wang Xia, 54, a member of Linglong who joined more than four years ago, won for Best Dress Design and third place in the competition.
"It's exciting to win a prize on the runway, where tall models are mostly favored," Wang said. "I'm happy that my dream has come true. It gives me a second life after 50."
Under a State Council regulation, the statutory retirement age is generally 55 for women who work in administrative positions. But women in jobs that require strength can apply for retirement at age 50.
Last year, there were 7.21 million seniors over 60 in Chongqing, accounting for 21 percent of the total population. The population aging rate ranked sixth in the country, according to a report by Chinanews.com.
"I never expected to see a group of sisters over 45 being so confident and glamorous," said Fang Yuan, a guest judge. "I see infinite possibilities and professionalism, as well as their love and passion for the stage. It is a great show."
