TORCH RELAY

LOGO
The W-shaped logo design is inspired by the pattern of the phoenix bird from an ancient Chinese fairytale, which represents auspiciousness, peace and harmony. It also resembles a burning fire, representing the vitality and passion of winter sports athletes.
CEREMONY CAULDRON
Painted red and silver to match the colors of the torch, the cauldron's shape is similar to a Chinese zun, an ancient bronze jar or tripod. The cloud patterns from the 2008 Summer Games cover the base before morphing into sporadic snowflakes to represent Beijing's unique status as a host for both the Summer and Winter Olympics.
MEDAL FRONT SIDE
Inspired by the exquisite multi-circle "yu bi", an ancient Chinese jade artifact dating back some 5,000 years, each medal features carvings of the Olympic rings at its heart on the front side with the words "XXIV Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022" etched around them. Engravings of cloud patterns, snowflakes and ice scratches fill the outer rings.
FLAME LANTERN
The lantern, which will be used to contain the Olympic flame on exhibition trips, draws inspiration from the Changxin Palace Lamp, a bronze artifact dating back to the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24), to represent long-lasting warmth. The lantern's top section resembles a traditional Chinese scroll, also a feature of the 2008 Games' main cauldron.
TORCH
Dubbed the "Flying Ribbon", the Beijing 2022 torch spirals upward to resemble two overlapping fluttering ribbons. The inner red ribbon evokes rising flames, with the outer one plated in silver to produce a striking contrast. Beaming with dynamism and vitality, the two-tone torch presents a metaphor of ice and fire, symbolizing how it will bring light and warmth to the winter sports gala. The torch features etchings of the Beijing 2022 emblem and the Olympic rings, with patterns of clouds and snowflakes painted from the bottom up to the flame.
MEDAL REVERSE SIDE
The reverse side bears the Beijing 2022 Paralympics emblem at the center, with the outer rings dotted with 13 stars strung together by circles to represent the 13th edition of the Winter Paralympic Games, and feature the name of the medal event.
TORCHBEARER UNIFORM
Shown to the world during the flame-lighting ceremony in Olympia, Greece, the torchbearer uniform is a predominantly white tracksuit decorated in the national flag colors of red and yellow. Red stripes extend from sleeve cuffs to trouser ends, which designers describe as an embodiment of torchbearers' high spirits as they travel along each of the relay legs. The full uniform also includes gloves, a headband and a bobble hat.
