Cargo throughput up at Beibu Gulf Port

Beibu Gulf Port in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region saw its cargo throughput rise 10.29 percent year-on-year to over 200 million tons in the first nine months of this year. Over 4.18 million twenty-foot equivalent unit containers were handled at the port during the period, up 19.11 percent year-on-year, according to Beibu Gulf Port Group. Beibu Gulf Port currently has more than 270 productive berths. Over 50 shipping routes link the gulf with more than 300 ports around the world.

Reverse repos net 100b yuan for liquidity

The People's Bank of China, the central bank, on Friday injected 100 billion yuan ($15.62 billion) into the financial system via seven-day reverse repos carrying an interest rate of 2.2 percent, which is expected to offset the impacts of tax period and government bond issuance, and keep liquidity in the banking system at a reasonably sufficient level. A reverse repo is a process in which the central bank purchases securities from commercial banks through bidding, with an agreement to sell them back in the future.

100 Chinese brands valued at $1.56 trillion

The values of 100 Chinese brands significantly increased to $1.56 trillion, up 57 percent year-on-year, as they pursued high-quality and sustainable development, according to a report on the 2021 BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Chinese Brands ranking released by the international market research firm Kantar. The top 10 chart saw Tencent, whose brand value surged 85 percent to $279.6 billion, take the crown this year. Internet giant Alibaba and liquor-maker Kweichow Moutai ranked second and third, registering brand values of $201.9 billion and $110.6 billion, respectively.

China-Vietnam freight trains busy in Jan-Sept

South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region handled 235 China-Vietnam freight train trips in the first nine months of this year, up 117 percent year-on-year. The number surpassed that of the whole year of 2020, said the China Railway Nanning Group Co Ltd. A total of 6,772 twenty-foot equivalent unit containers were transported from January to September. China-Vietnam freight train services were launched in 2017. The number of operated train trips increased from 59 in 2018 to 166 in 2020, and it is estimated that the number will exceed 300 this year.
