The world’s first intelligent container terminal with zero carbon emissions went into operation in Tianjin Port on Oct 17.

Its “brain”, by coordinating all functional factors in the area in real-time, can automatically create optimized loading and unloading plans. This leads to 20 percent higher efficiency compared to traditional terminals.

The terminal’s artificial intelligence robots have various sensors to be their "eyes and ears", doing dangerous and arduous work that humans used to do in traditional container terminals.

Therefore, the intelligent terminal can save manpower, time and cost, while maintaining world-leading efficiency.

A base station with the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System was established at the terminal, which can achieve dynamic high-precision positioning with the help of 5G technology.

The terminal is powered by wind and photovoltaic energy, achieving zero-carbon emissions in its energy consumption and production.

It is the world's first "smart" and "zero-carbon" terminal -- an example for the intelligent upgrading and low-carbon development of ports all over the world, said Chu Bin, chairman of the board of the Tianjin Port (Group) Co., Ltd.
