BAKU - Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) performed Wednesday a flight through the airspace of Armenia on the domestic route between its capital Baku and Nakhchivan Autonomous region, the company said in a statement.

AZAL said the shift in the Baku-Nakhchivan-Baku flight route reduced the flight duration and fuel consumption.

The carrier also added that the move affirmed Azerbaijan's readiness for the reopening of the transport communications in the region "which meets the best interests of all border countries."

A new round of armed clashes between the two South Caucasus countries broke out late last September, causing heavy casualties and property losses. It ended with a Russia-brokered truce in November 2020.
