Tianjin reaches whole-city coverage goal for 5G

The entire city of Tianjin is now covered by 5G broadband service, officials announced on Tuesday.

"To date, it has installed 32,000 base stations, with users topping 4.93 million. Plus, it has built 282 5G-application scenarios," said Yin Jihui, Party chief of the Tianjin Industrial and Information Technology Bureau.

Tianjin Mobile, a branch of China Mobile, announced that it has expanded its 5G network with 12,000 base stations, with total 5G users hitting 3 million. All urban and suburban areas in the city are covered, it said, adding that its 5G coverage along the coastline in Tianjin has reached 60 kilometers. Construction speed has ranked first in the country, it said.

Download speeds for 5G could hit 1,000 gigabits per second, while its extended speed has been accelerated to 1 millisecond.
