Wuxi aims to take lead on socialist modernization

Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province will basically achieve common prosperity and take the lead in building a modern and strong city by 2035, said the city's Party Secretary Du Xiaogang at the 14th Wuxi Municipal Congress of the Communist Party of China on Sept 25.

Du delivered a report on behalf of the 13th Wuxi Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and briefed about the city's achievements over the past five years, the overall requirements, goals and tasks for the next five years, striving to take the lead in promoting social modernization, and promoting comprehensive and strict Party governance unswervingly.

Du said that after five years of development, the city has seen improved social quality and efficiency, increased drive in development, coordinated development between rural and urban areas, optimized environmental quality, improved people's lives, stable overall social situation and stronger leadership of the Party.

Du noted that in the next five years, Wuxi will focus on the goal set for the 14th Five-Year (2021-25) Plan and become a pilot demonstration area for modernization.

Wuxi will take the lead in realizing socialist modernization and promote the high-quality development of the city with a strong economy, rich and diverse population, beautiful environment, as well as a highly civilized society, Du added.

The local Party congress, held once every five years, was attended by 540 Party members from all fronts in Wuxi.

During the local Party congress, they will hear and examine the reports of the local Party committee at the corresponding level, examine the reports of the local commission for discipline inspection at the corresponding level, discuss and adopt resolutions on major issues within the scope of its local area, and elect the local Party committee and commission for discipline inspection at the corresponding level.
