Professor Hua Yan, head of Ophthalmology of Tianjin Medical University, vice president of Asia Pacific Ophthalmic Trauma Society and head of China Ocular Trauma Society, has made remarkable achievements in developing treatment technology for severely traumatized eyes with no light perception, a challenging area.

Yan has focused on clinical and basic research of ocular trauma for decades, and is committed to promoting standardized diagnosis and precision treatment of ocular trauma.

He took the lead in carrying out surgical treatment of severe eye trauma and has treated a considerable number of patients worldwide.

As chair of an international ocular trauma meeting, Professor Hua Yan and experts from all over the world have a constructive discussion and in-depth exchange on the topic of ocular trauma treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic. [Photo provided to exploringtianjin.com]

The surgical methods he uses have defined and standardized treatment principles and methods for severe eye trauma, as well as played a guiding role in clinical work. They have been widely promoted around the world, reported on at international and domestic academic conferences, and widely recognized in the international ophthalmology community. The technology he has developed has won a number of scientific and technological progress awards.

He was invited by Springer Publishing House to edit six ocular trauma books, the first of their kind in the world.

One of the six books was selected as an annual influential publication for Chinese authors and highly praised by Ferenc Khun, president of the International Society of Ocular Trauma.
