China and the United States cannot strengthen green and low-carbon cooperation without sound and stable bilateral economic and trade ties, a senior government official said.

Facts have long proved bilateral economic and trade relations are mutually beneficial in nature. As the two largest economies in the world, reinforcing business cooperation is not only beneficial to the two countries and their peoples, but also plays a pivotal role in global economic growth, said Wang Shouwen, China's vice-commerce minister.

Addressing a seminar during the 21st China International Fair for Investment and Trade, held from Sept 8 to 11 in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, the official reiterated unilateralism and trade protectionism not only harm the interests of China and the US, but also undermine global economic recovery.

China-US relations are now at an important juncture, he said. The two sides should give full play to stability in bilateral economic and trade relations, strengthen cooperation, manage differences, bring their economic and trade relations back on track and achieve greater development on the basis of mutual benefit.
