Man shot dead by police, several seriously injured at New Zealand supermarket

AUCKLAND, New Zealand -- One man was shot dead by police after assaulting multiple people at a supermarket in Auckland's New Lynn, New Zealand on Friday, local media reported.

Several shoppers are understood to have suffered serious injuries and have been taken to Auckland City Hospital's emergency department with status 1, meaning the life-threatening condition, NZ Herald reported.

Auckland police confirmed that a man in a supermarket injured multiple people, who was shot and died at the scene.

Armed police have blocked off the roads nearby and at least 10 police vehicles are around the mall, where the supermarket is located.
