The extension of an expressway linking the two host cities of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games began operations on Tuesday, four months ahead of schedule.

As one of the major transportation arteries for the Games, the expressway aims to provide safe and convenient passenger service and integrate Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province.

The expressway connects Beijing's Yanqing district and the Chongli district of Zhangjiakou, Hebei. Its 17.1-kilometer extension starts at Taizicheng in Chongli — the terminus of the main line of the expressway — and extends northwest to connect with the Zhangjiakou-Chengde Expressway.
